BLACK JESUS EXPERIENCE is a core of 10 musical artists plus an extended family of friends and collaborators – their irresistible take on funk a blend of traditional Ethiopian song and 21st Century groove.

Black Jesus Experience are winners of The Age’s ‘Best Australian Touring Band’ award, over the last twelve years touring Australia/NZ, Europe and Africa from Glastonbury to Womad and all points in between.

Black Jesus Experience have released seven award winning albums including two collaboration albums with Ethiojazz legend Mulatu Astatke, ‘Cradle Of Humanity’ and ‘To Know Without Knowing’. They are currently recording their eighth album in Melbourne and Addis Ababa.

Black Jesus Experience is the sound of the multicultural vibrancy of their hometown, Melbourne, Australia, their music rooted in the world’s great improvising traditions.

The rhymes and chimes of Black Jesus Experience deliver power and beauty through the vocal prism of Hip-Hop and freedom of Funk.

**** “Beautifully layered and organic, trippy and hypnotic. This is the good stuff, don’t waste a drop of it” Blues And Soul Magazine

“Ancient to modern sensibility. Rammed with more rhythm-stretching melody than its groove ought to have room for.”

The Guardian – John Fordham

**** “Volcanic.. fusillades of brass and percussion.. spiraling rhythms.. starkly hypnotic.“

The Times – Clive Davis
